Miners GM Ray Welsh will be joining the scouting staff of the NAHL Keystone Ice Miners, formerly the Port Huron Fighting Falcons. Port Huron has had a very successful program under Head Coach Michael Gershon who remains committed to bringing the same caliber to their new location in Connellsville, PA, under the Keystone Ice Miners.
Welsh looks forward to this new venture and the opportunities it will offer elite players in the Northeast region to be closely followed and recruited. Per Welsh, “By working with the Keystone Ice Miners I am hopeful this promising opportunity will also enable the Wilkes-Barre Miners to further grow and develop. Myself, along with Head Coach Olegs Koreskovs, have been working diligently recruiting for the upcoming season recently signing some players (Derek Bureau, Quebec; Jonathan Wisten, Sweden; Johannes Leitner, Austria; Michael Tugo, Estonia; and Finnish Goalie Simeon Valonen) with great potential to earn a position at the Tier II level. We are excited about the level of talent joining our bench this season.”
Welsh is looking forward to attending the Ice Miners Main Camp later this month and will be planning a WB Miners team road trip to the Ice Mine to support Keystone in their new home this season.
